Mint #141 : Morrissey – Low In High School

There’s no denying that Steven Patrick Morrissey divides opinion, but his eleventh solo album ‘Low In High School’ has some real corkers. Perhaps focusing more on the instrumentals for sync, the tracks go from reflective, filmic Morricone whistles of ‘When You Open Your Legs’, dark and eerie moments, lone drumming on ‘Israel’ to lone piano and haunting laughter on ‘Bury The Living’. To the more upbeat bombastic tracks such as ‘My Love, I’d Do Anything For You’ with swaggering horns, quirky piano and a bit of flamenco on ‘The Girl from Tel-Aviv Who Wouldn’t Kneel’ and even a nod to The Beatles on ‘All The Young People Must Fall In Love’.
